CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange - Exchange Protection / Exchange Failover Solution

CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange provides Exchange protection through automated Exchange failover that specifically addresses the nuances of Microsoft Exchange. CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange provides concise, tailored Exchange installation-specific options, and requires no further IT intervention to complete the processes of failover detection, Exchange failover and bringing the hotsite/replication site online. For further ease of use, CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange is built specifically for Exchange protection and the Exchange environment as it reads the Active Directory, the server registry and Exchange 2000/2003 files, and quickly gives an administrator a profile of where things are, how they are set and options for synchronization intervals. Our Exchange failover solution doesn't require customization details and script writing for Exchange administrators to struggle with.

Exchange Protection and Exchange Failover

CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange provides complete Exchange protection and Exchange failover by automatically detecting when the primary site is down, then recasts the hotsite's mirror to Exchange users. Our Exchange failover product automatically brings Exchange services back online by using an existing connection to reroute operations to the secondary site. In an independent laboratory test, only CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange did not lose any messages during the Exchange failover process.

Be sure to view our Exchange protection recorded webcasts and demos which walks through our Exchange failover solution.

For compliance and testing purposes, CA XOsoft's Assured Recovery works in conjunction with our disaster recovery and high availability solutions by enabling a full test of the recoverability of your data on a replica system. This is done by actually starting up application services on the replica and performing whatever operations are required to verify the integrity of the data, including updates to the database, without any need to perform an expensive resynchronization or to leave the production system vulnerable.

Q. What is the difference between WANSync and CA XOsoft High Availability?

A. CA XOsoft High Availability offers a superset of the capabilities of WANSync. In particular, CA XOsoft High Availability adds the capability for push-button or automatic failover of clients from the production server to a secondary replica server, without any need to reconfigure clients, as well as the ability to automatically monitor the status of the production server and the applications running on it. Once the Master server is restored to its original state, CA XOsoft High Availability allows the IT administrator to reinstate the Master Server or "automatically failback" from the Replica with no loss of data or application availability.

Exchange Failover

CA XOsoft, a leading provider of continuous application availability software, provides a solution tailored to handle the specific nuances of MS Exchange failover, high availability and disaster recovery. CA XOsoft has developed CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange for Exchange protection, which enable the availability of Microsoft Exchange through high availability replicas that enable Exchange failover, even across different IP networks.

CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange for Exchange protection secures entire Exchange servers, backs them up and constantly synchronizes them with either local or remote replicas in real time - MS Exchange failover. Our patented soft installation avoids system shutdowns and does not require that Exchange services be restarted, ensuring that lost productivity is not an issue.
Intelligent, binary differentiation-based algorithms allow CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange to continuously carry out byte-level updates, even over intermittent WAN and slow TCP connections. Should the Exchange server fail for any reason or have to be shut down for maintenance, a CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange failover replica, either local or halfway around the globe, will automatically take its place to provide true Exchange protection and automated Exchange failover.

Key Benefits and Features of Exchange Protection and Exchange Failover

Meeting Compliance Regulations, Testing, and Backup/Snapshot Assurance

For those industries mandated by the government or its board of directors to provide documented proof that their disaster recovery replicas will function in the event of downtime, CA XOsoft's Assured Recovery is the solution to this previously very expensive undertaking. With Assured Recovery, IT professionals are provided with documented assurance that the replica is in a valid state. Once the test has verified the data to be fully consistent, appropriate staff can be alerted with the status of the test, and additional actions can be triggered on success, such as running a snapshot or a backup of the data for archiving purposes. Note: Assured Recovery testing is tailored to the particular applications that are being protected, including Exchange, SQL and Oracle.

Unlimited Availability

  • Fully automated or manually activated, single-click Exchange failover
  • Continuous data protection through our Data Rewind technology for instant roll-back to previously stored consistent states

Exchange Failover - Fast and Simple Installation

  • Soft installation requires no system shutdown or restart of Exchange services
  • Effortless replication setup through single-click, automatic mapping of all Exchange server components
  • Easy to use, GUI-based, centralized management from any remote site
  • Flexible replication scheduling - synchronization may occur in real time, or may optionally be delayed to protect replicas from Exchange server data corruption

Transparent Operation

  • Continuous, real-time, asynchronous replication of Exchange resources over LAN or WAN
  • Minimal IT support required
  • MS Exchange replication through tree topology with incremental, binary differentiation-based updates and optional data compression minimize bandwidth requirements
  • Highly resilient network protocol provides Exchange protection against connection losses and optimizes low speed links

Cost Effective Exchange Protection and Exchange Failover Solution

  • Software-based, hardware and platform-independent - does not require Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Exchange Server Enterprise Edition or 3rd party clustering solutions
  • No hidden costs - the lowest TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and a rapid return on investment
  • Highly scalable architecture

CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange - Exchange Protection at Work

With automated Exchange server component discovery and MS Exchange replication setup, installation and configuration is easy. The CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange service running on the master Exchange server maps and retrieves all Exchange database components, including storage groups and associated public and private information stores, system directory and log files.

Once paths to Exchange database components have been retrieved, synchronization with CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange replicas commences, creating up-to-date copies of the Exchange server being secured. CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange tracks all incoming changes to master Exchange server files (at the file system level), and replicates these changes in real time. Transactional integrity is maintained constantly, as updates are applied to replicas in the exact same order in which they were written to the master Exchange server.

Exchange Failover / Failback

Should the master Exchange server become unavailable, our Exchange protection software automates the failover steps to the MS Exchange replication site. CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange monitors all critical events, including global server failure and Exchange service failure, and either automatically or on command, initiates failover to a standby replica site. Exchange failover may include IP take-over (if the standby site is implemented within the same network segment) or DNS redirection, when the remote standby site is located on a different IP network (cross-network failover).

Single-Network Exchange Failover / Failback

In a single segment scenario, a CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange master (M1 in the diagram below) is assigned a secondary IP address. This IP address is used for replication with a replica server (R1 in the diagram below). In case M1 fails, it will retain the secondary IP address, while its primary IP address is reassigned to R1. This procedure is fully automated, and involves the following events on the replica:
  • IP take-over
  • Startup of Exchange services
  • Mounting of Exchange databases
  • Updating of user records in Domain Controller with new Exchange server name
Complete service availability is achieved, with our Exchange failover users are instantaneously switched to the replica server (R1) and through a completely automated process. Once the master server is back online, reverse replication (from replica to master) can be automatically initiated, ensuring that the master is fully up-to-date when users are switched back to it.

Cross-Network Exchange Failover / Failback

When master and replica do not reside on the same IP network, IP address transfer is impossible. CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange failover overcomes this limitation through intelligent manipulation of DNS lookup. Should the master server fail, CA XOsoft High Availability Exchange will route client applications to a replica server with an alternate DNS name, again providing users with complete and seamless Microsoft Exchange service availability.
